It's been awhile since I have posted anything, so I'm going to do some quick and dirty updates. Current Writing Count: 1 Novel The Oren Letters: Demos (90k~ words) - First draft done, revisions completed through 50%, sent 1st half to some readers to get feedback as this is the very first piece of fiction I've written. Feedback from readers so far has been mainly encouraging, a couple are impressed and excited. Constructive criticism received stating, they way I understood it, the storyline is good, the prose needs to be spiced up. After writing more since the first novel I can see where he is coming from. Still need to get back to this and do my first revisions on the second half. 1 Novella Sand and Cinder (24k~) - This is a much more finished work. I originally planned to write this for NaNoWriMo but was too excited for the project to wait the two months way back in September. So I've finished this project, done a full course of revisions and I'm just wait...

I've had the idea for the Oren Letters in my head for a year and a half now. Throughout this time I have realized that the manner in which I have written this book is motivated by two very strong love/hate relationships with literary genres, that of allegory and fantasy. First is allegory, I will start by saying I am a christian. While the Oren Letters is ultimately built to be an allegory, I hope it entertains and captures the imagination of others just as much if not more so than other believers. I love allegory for the simple reason that a person need only look to one of Christ's many parables to realize the power they hold. Some christians hold allegory with disdain but I take Christ's use of parables as more than enough evidence of their power and use. So I love allegory in its various forms for the fact that it portrays the incomprehensible in tangible ways. However, I have disdain for allegory because I have yet to see it done well. The Oren Letters is being written by Titus Welch. Titus graduated in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science in Biblical Studies. After graduating, he started a career in the corporate world in 2008 and married in June 2009. He began to host an entertainment podcast with his friends in September 2010 ( http://www.robotinthecorner.com/ ). Since January 2010 he has been cultivating a novel idea in his mind, which was initially inspired by a band, Demon Hunter. After a full year of developing a world and history for his novel series, he began writing the story on Valentine's Day 2011 and wrote the last chapter on July 7th, totaling 87,731 words. Revisions and edits are currently being worked (as of 8/4/11). Since I last posted 3.5 months ago I have written an additional 75,000 words and finished the first draft of the novel, now hows that for an excuse? In addition to finishing the novel's first run, I have also begun my first revisions, which is currently through the first three of forty chapters.  Plus, I have also acquired a new Wacom tablet and have begun to work on some cover art. The image below is what I have thus far (don't worry about the moon, I've only got about ten minutes into it so far). Currently, the series is planned to be a four novel series, but in addition to the novels there will be a few novellas, and many short stories. Well, I was posting all updates to theorenletters.com - but since I have realized that it may be easier and more effective if I kept the updates and various posts that were not story related to a separate blog to ease the reading of the released chapters I had posted on theorenletters.com The next few posts will be direct copies from the other blog, they did not fit with the chapters I was realeasing so I have brought them here.
